RCE Parents-

The School Board voted to begin school on August 17th and all students will be virtual. The Board will reassess on August 28th to determine if we will continue educating virtually, or if we can go to school in-person.  Because we are all virtual, you do not need to fill out a virtual form at this time.  You will need to email me (clong@jocoed.net) if you need a device for your child to use.  The district has ordered devices, however, due to the impact the pandemic has had on the country-- they are backordered. If you have a laptop, a desktop PC or anything with a keyboard- it will be usable for the online work.  We are limited in the number of devices we have on hand and will only be able to send out 1 per household.

There has been confusion about the 6.5 hours of work/instruction.  We will supply you with a daily schedule indicating the amount of time each subject requires for learning. Keep in mind our school day is not 6.5 hours of straight work. Included in your child's day is lunch, recess, RTI and a specialty class. Teachers will not be requiring students to do all of the work in front of the computer the whole time. If you have more than one child at home and need assistance in creating a school day schedule for them- please do not hesitate to reach out to us. The following is a guide to assist you in planning your child's learning day:  Reading = 1 hour and 30 minutes, Math = 1 hour and 30 minutes, Social Studies = 50 minutes, Science = 50 minutes, Lunch = 30 minutes, Recess = 30 minutes, Go Noodle = 10 minutes (for a break between work/learning), RTI intervention = 40 minutes

At this time, the School Board has not made a definitive decision about Kid's Corral. They meet next Thursday and will decide about whether to open Kid's Corral or not at that time.

If you want your child to receive a free lunch and breakfast, please make sure you fill out the online form located on the district website and Facebook page.

We will be giving out school materials on Monday, August 17th from 4pm-6pm at the gym awning. Tables will be lined up by grade levels. Please stay in your cars and pull up to the sidewalk and teachers will hand you the materials. If you are borrowing a device, you will need to park in the front and walk through the front door. Those devices will be handed out in the front foyer. You will be filling out a device agreement form at that time.

We are dedicated to making this new educational experience work for your child. Our students are important to us and while we miss their smiling faces, we understand the concerns about meeting in-person. Communication with your child's teacher will be the most important tool you have on hand.
